An overview of two music therapy assessment tools created for practice with young children from early intervention to early school-aged – The Early Childhood Strengths, Needs and Resources Review (ECSNRR) and the MIECD (Music Indictors of Early Childhood Development). Access to copies of both assessment tools will be provided to participants.
This course will provide participants with an overview of two music therapy assessment tools specifically designed for young children from early intervention to pre-school and early school-aged. The course will first present a foundation for the function and use of music therapy assessments in early childhood across common settings. Next will be a review of the need for recognized assessment tools in terms of eligibility, levels of functioning, treatment planning and evaluation procedures. The course will then give an overview of two assessment tools created by the presenter: The Early Childhood Strengths, Needs and Resources Review (ECSNRR) and the MIECD (Music Indictors of Early Childhood Development). The research and literature supporting both of these tools will be examined and discussed. Next the protocols and procedures for performing and completing both the ECSNRR and the MIECD will be explained. Case examples will be presented. Participants will be given access to both tools and will have an opportunity to discuss individual questions or concerns on early childhood assessment and on use of the tools in their own practice.
