InactiveAs a music therapist, you know how music making contributes to overall early development. This connection between music and development is a unique feature of this training. We also know that there are many community programs in which young children are taught music skills. How do you explain to parents the difference between what you do and what another music learning based program does?
Be sure to come back and respond to others as well.

The programs I can offer differ in several ways. As a music therapist, I am trained to know how to identify music that will illicit different responses and how to identify these responses. I also have the training and experience on how to evaluate children on where they are developmentally. These classes offer a developmental approach to encourage the acquisition of developmental milestones. I am trained to evaluate developmental skills to identify the needs of each child.

With this specific music based learning program, as a music therapist, I am trained to use music in a way that encourages developmental growth; I can evaluate where a child is developmentally and tailor the program to encourage different developmental milestones. In other music based learning programs, the focus is typically on learning music and being able to play music. In my music based learning program, the focus is learning and growing developmentally through the use of music.

Remember to save these responses so they can help you as you present your unique skills to families and programs.

My groups are based on the developmental level your child is at and use music to support individual exploration and growth as well as community connection. My specialized training as a music therapist allows me to constantly observe and adapt my approach to what your child needs, and we use music in fun ways to encourage growth and development.

As I music therapist, I am able to adapt and modify my sessions to reflect the needs and developmental levels of the children participating. I also have an understanding of how music aids in development and the best ways to utilize music to encourage further developmental growth. Finally, I have training in observing the behaviors of the children around my and how it is related to the music.
