I am most excited about the potential of unlocking confidence in myself within these interactions. It will be a great thing to a) become fluent in the developmental levels, b) interacting with children in a way that is flexible and meets their needs. I am also looking forward to being able to verbalize to parents what their children are doing and what they’re doing well! Also just sharing these very adaptable and memorable songs to a community can potentially make a great impact. These songs are accessible and, as said, memorable, which could encourage others to put it into their daily lives (i.e. parents).

I really enjoyed reading your response! Thank you so much for sharing.
Consider savingethis response as a reminder of all that you have to offer to families and all that you are taking with you.

I agree with you Holly on the aspect of these experiences and interactions giving us more confidence as we continue our work. The more we practice and utilize these tools, the more we grow as clinicians!

I am excited about using some of the types of songs in my groups, especially the songs for bonding. This is one area that I have not used too much lately. I also look forward to incorporating siblings in my groups to encourage positive interactions.

I am excited about possibly providing an opportunity for families in my community. I know that sounds like a basic answer, but New Mexico is a poor state and doesn’t have a lot of opportunities for developmentally sound programming. I would love to somehow set up a sliding scale or get a grant to provide the services to more rural communities, or families in poverty, since paying for services is often a barrier to quality services here.

I am excited to advocate and educate for the children in my groups. Whether it be with parents or staff members, helping them to understand these children more will be something I will take with me and continue to do in my work. To assure that each child is successful, I will give them leadership opportunities. I will always give them the space to make a choice. I will always praise them for their engagement and encourage engagement and advocate for when they “aren’t engaging.” If they are just observing, that is engagement! I am excited to watch these children grow through their development and see what they can achieve through music.
