There is a particular group I see for several weeks of varying ages, from 3 years old all the way to 20’s with ranging ASD diagnosis. The bonding that occurs throughout sessions can be incredibly powerful for family members and their kids inside the session. There are not many groups that are so accepting of the vast range of physical, social, or cognitive differences. This training would help me better connect everyone in the group together and be able to explain the reasons for why certain elements of music are successful or beneficial for everyone.

ParticipantYou make a wonderful point Stephanie. I often overlook the fact that we take into consideration all the seemingly extraneous factors such as cultural competence, adaptability, and being with them in the moment more so than other individuals they might interact with. The joy and bonding that occurs can be quite powerful and I’m happy to hear about the delightful interactions that music can bring in early childhood between parents, kids, and other kids who are alongside them!

ParticipantMusic therapists bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding of developmental psychology as well as the effect music can have on an individual. By studying the early stages of development, music therapists are able to present the knowledge to parents so that they may observe and realize how much impact music or simply one on one engagement can have with younger children.
ParticipantHi everyone! I am Amadee Castenell III. I am one of the music therapists at Roman Music Therapy Services, which is run by Meredith Pizzi, one of the founders of sprouting melodies. I’ve been with the company for two years now and as a team member I am always looking for a way to progress as a well rounded therapist. I currently do a great deal of work with older adults, both intellectual and physical disabilities as well as hospice and dementia/Alzheimer’s. I am from New Orleans, LA but live in Wakefield MA. I admire all my coworkers who lead these groups and would love to expand my knowledge with this population.
