Nice to meet you! I love seeing how music therapists can create their dream job (or dream combination of jobs!) I can second that Laurie Berkner is a hit! Although I often find myself singing those songs all day as they are definite ear worms.
ParticipantHi Erika – Thanks for moderating! Great to hear that you have been offering Sprouting Melodies for years and and still continue to support the program.
ParticipantNice to meet you! Sounds like you have lots of valuable experience to contribute to your community!
ParticipantHello everyone! My name is Kate Caruso and I have been a music therapist for 4 years, and before that I was an elementary school music teacher in a bilingual school and taught K-5, complete with two special education classes and a marimba band! I cherish those memories, but I LOVE being a music therapist and using music to connect with others and help people connect with themselves. I currently work mostly with developmentally disabled adults and adults with dementia at a wonderful practice in Portland, OR.
Learning about how music can support infant in the NICU as well as the infant-caregiver bond was one thing that initially sparked my interest in music therapy, and my time as a music therapist doing developmental music sessions in a preschool was always the highlight of my caseload pre-pandemic. I am interested to continue learning (as I just love learning in general) with hopes to work with more children in the future. Looking forward to learning alongside all of you!
