Such a small world! I almost went to SUNY Fred, but things didn’t quite work out. My sister also attended Marywood, so I am very familiar with the area. Hope you’re enjoying the masters program at Fred – it’s on my list for graduate school for sure! 🙂
ParticipantHi everyone! Sorry for the delayed introduction. My name is Kristen Carter and I have been a MT-BC for one year now. I am originally from Binghamton, New York, an hour south of Syracuse, NY and an hour north of Scranton, PA! (Hey Fredonia and Marywood folk!) I completed my undergraduate degree at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music in Cleveland, Ohio as a vocalist. I also completed my internship in Cleveland at MetroHealth Systems. I spent the majority of my internship working with inpatient neurologic rehabilitation (CVA, TBI, and Spinal Cord Injury) and gained a huge foundation in NMT. I also spent the other half of my time at the main campus, which is a Level 1 Trauma Center working in Adult and Pediatric ICUs. That experience alone truly broadcasted the idea of translating NMT-focused work for adults into other populations – especially for early childhood and adolescents! Also, I loved spending the past three summers as the “Music Specialist” at a camp for children and adults with DD, tucked in the mountains of Santa Cruz, California. I recently moved to Mankato, Minnesota where I am working with Healing Rhythms Music Therapy and primarily serving patients and families through Mayo Clinic Hospice in the area. I also see a few medically complex kiddos in their homes. A huge part of this training course is to help grow Early Childhood Music Therapy offerings and resources in this community, in particular. I’m really looking forward to translating more of these Child Development foundations into all of my work as an MT-BC!
