I’m so looking forward to getting back in the classroom with my littles and using the knowledge that I’ve gained as well! Can’t wait to see how they grow, and how I grow as well!

I’m going to be working towards doing more groups in the community, hopefully using the Sprouting Melodies name! In the fall, I’ll be implementing some of the SM interventions and I’m super excited to do that!

I hope everyone has found some things that they can use in this training! It’s been great reading all of your replies and gaining knowledge from all of you!

Yes! I completely relate, Tabitha! I’m going to do some extra research before reaching out, but I’ve gotten a start. There’s a lot of moving pieces to put together I think before all of the groups can really happen. I don’t have places that this could take place, but I’m really hopeful that I can find some spaces where I can make this work!

Shewww, I am loving this list of people that you have already spoken to Stephanie! I can’t wait to step up my game and reach out to some of these people in my state! Way to go!

I’ve already worked to advocate with the administration at my school as our music therapy program will be experiencing a shift in the coming years. I’m trying to make sure that our early childhood and pre-k groups are receiving music therapy in addition to or instead of music education services so that they’re benefiting from the unique knowledge that I have. I’m also planning on reaching out to the local libraries and the local parks and rec organization. Both provide a lot of services to families in the city/county and surrounding areas, and I’m hoping to be able to work with them to create some music therapy groups for our families. I want to be able to share with these organizations the benefit of music therapy and the Sprouting Melodies program in helping support families and promote growth in our little ones.

Amadee, I’m so glad you know where your heart lies! I’m in the same boat about being able to advocate for music therapy in early childhood! There’s so much valuable information here and I can’t wait to share it!

Carrie, I read the inner monologue! 😛 I hope you’re able to find a way to squeeze SM into your practice, but even if you don’t, I’m glad that you’ve found so much value in the training! It’s been such a great few months re-learning this and confirming what a lot of us already know!

The access to the other MT’s who’ve taken this course, being able to collaborate with them, is going to be such a benefit in the long run! I completely agree with you Stephanie!

I’m looking forward to so many things! Getting to love on new and growing families through music, getting to love on little ones and watch them grow, bringing music to the community in a new and informative way. I think the thing that I am most looking forward to is being able to use this training every day in my work with my special needs kiddos. Even some of my older kiddos can benefit from a lot of the interventions, just framed a little differently perhaps. Becoming an SM provider will be super beneficial for my kids and for me.

Carrie, love those names! Coaching and sportscasting are something that I have done for several years in my groups, but I’m glad I have a name for them now!

Megan, I love this analogy of the orchestra! Each person in a group is so vital to the group as a whole, even if we don’t recognize it. Everyone holds a piece of the music to complete the song and each piece is so very important.

Brooke, I completely agree. We need to always be on our toes and aware of how everyone is responding in a class so that we can react appropriately. Great insight!

My favorite strategies for ensuring that my kiddos are successful are to shut up and observe/listen and to make sure they are able to communicate. I work with almost every student in my school and each one of them communicates in a different way, each one reacts to the music in a different way, each one is different and unique in their own special way. If I were to keep on talking in every one of my sessions, I’d never see them grow. I observe and I listen. I listen to the way that they talk, the way that they play. I observe their interactions with each other and with staff, the way that they play their instruments, the instruments they pick. And then on top of it all, I always try to have a communication board with some basic pictures of instruments and things that they may need. With the complex human needs, I can’t cover everything, but I have bathroom, stop, quiet, and more. These couple of basic strategies help my kiddos feel comfortable and be more successful in each and every group.

Carrie, busy is such a good way to describe this group! So much always going on, but in a really good way!
