It takes him a few minutes to make it back to the office and he constantly looks back at mom while making his way down the hall. He displays short response levels and usually needs a small break between songs. If he does not remain seated, I will meet him where he is and support what he is doing at the moment. He is usually better with rederection if he has those small breaks. He has reciprocal communication and will match infection. A look forward to taking this new information on developmental stages while assessing my clients.

in reply to: Discuss with the board the traditional and cultural music in your home community.
ParticipantMy home community is not very diverse. It is a small town with a lot of rural areas. I would say pop, country, and rock music dominates the area. My home home is another story though. The radio is usually blasting with Latin American music. Some pop, but mainly all in Spanish.
The community I work in is more diverse than my home community and it reflects in the music used in my sessions. Rap, country, Latin American, American folk, Celtic, pop, disco, oldies but goodies. My clients’ age range also reflect the diversity in the music.

in reply to: Sing and learn some of the songs presented in the video. Share with the board your experiences using these songs.
ParticipantI was introduced to “All of this is me” during a conference presentation and have been using it with a client to address sesory/touch sensitivity ,as well as, self awarnes. Although I have yet to use some of the other songs, I have taken into account driving forces with in the songs and using more dynamics and some syncopation. The information about song writing and the use of trageted language was helpful and has inspired me to pay more attention when writing songs/ improvising.

I am taking this course so that i can offer opportunities for families to have their children participate in early childhood progams. I have a few parents who’s children are in the age range of 4-6 who never received any type of early childhood intervention before being school age. I hope that developing a program that offers a safe, warm, and inviting place will bring parents/caregivers to join and get their children on a path to a healthy and successful life.

in reply to: What was your most valuable takeaway from this weeks’ content?
ParticipantDue to the fact that I have been working mainly with adults for most of my career, I have not looked at much information about early childhood until now. I liked how the milestones were broken up and explained in the presentation. It was a very good refresher.
My most valuable takeaway would be in recognizing the need to observe these quick changing developmental stages to better individualize interventions and meet the child at their needs. The age range is small but the level of changes in the first 5 years vary greatly.
