Why We’re Creating Think Tanks at Raising Harmony

Music therapists already have a seat at many important tables. We are trusted and included across healthcare, education, mental health, and community settings, serving individuals and groups across generations. Now is the time to fully own that progress and begin looking ahead, imagining what more is possible for our profession and its impact in the world.

At Raising Harmony, we’ve been paying close attention to what our community is craving. Many of our formal networks and mentoring pathways have shifted or disappeared, and with that has come a real desire to gather again, not from a place of fragmentation or defense, but from a place of possibility.

This is what led us to begin cultivating Think Tanks.

These Think Tanks are not about having all the answers. They are not panels or presentations, and they are not spaces focused on fixing problems. They are intentionally designed gatherings where music therapists can come together to reflect, exchange ideas, and envision the future role of our work with curiosity and generosity.

We believe we are stronger together.

Across clinical practice, education, research, leadership, administration, and entrepreneurship, music therapists carry deep and often underutilized wisdom. Too often, those perspectives remain siloed by role or setting rather than brought into conversation. The Think Tanks are an intentional effort to gather music therapists with diverse experience around the same table, creating space for meaningful dialogue, shared learning, and collective thinking about the future of our work.

What matters most in these spaces is not whether someone has the right answer. What matters is whether they are willing to reconnect with their purpose, reflect honestly on their experience, and stay open to learning alongside others.

At the heart of the Raising Harmony Think Tanks are a few simple questions:

  • What are you really good at?
  • What are you curious to explore more deeply right now?
  • What do you feel called to contribute to a shared space of thinking and dialogue?

When music therapists engage these questions together, something important happens. People reconnect with why they were called to this work in the first place. Confidence grows. Perspective widens. The future of the profession begins to feel expansive rather than constrained.

The Raising Harmony Think Tanks are grounded in the belief that music therapists have far more to contribute to the world than we sometimes allow ourselves to see. These gatherings are about standing fully in that truth and imagining how music therapy can continue to support health, education, connection, and wellbeing in broader and more impactful ways.

We don’t believe this moment calls for retreat or protection. It calls for vision, collaboration, and the courage to think bigger together.
