I have many different ideas (it is overwhelming at times).  I would like to contact the local libraries and day care centers to inform them of a new opportunity: Sprouting Melodies and how it can benefit them. I also have a couple of

colleagues I would like to share this information with.  Sprouting Melodies is a great way to share music with parents and children as well as help those with special needs.  My biggest area of concern is the business aspect.  As a music

therapist I feel comfortable with the music part but not as comfortable with marketing.  I am sure my skill will improve over time 🙂

I’m especially looking forward to sharing this information with the people I work with. We have a team of nurses, doctors, CNA’s, massage therapists, chaplains and social workers that I am anxious to meet with and maybe give an in-service on what I’ve learned because I really think a lot of what I’ve learned is worth sharing with them and feel that they could benefit and utilize some of the information too in their work with the children and their families. I loved the piece about reaching out into the community and appreciate all the tips and suggestions for branching out and advocating for music therapy. What a great idea to be as much a part of the community as possible. I think that will not only help with business but will help music therapy earn respect and recognition that it deserves.

Thanks. Jillian, one thing I have been told by MTs who work in pediatric hospital or hospice work, is that children sometimes digress in the musical levels due to pain, anxiety or medication. I would love to know if you see this response also and if the musical developmental levels hold  true in those types of settings.

I am very interested in working through the library system, to bring SM to my area.  I also am in a contractual relationship with a facility, where I am doing a drumming for wellness, progressive relaxation for parents for de-stressing, soon to come, music therapy assisted childbirth classes, and SM.  I am also participating in some festivals with a booth that are family, and baby based, and looking to share this way.  Also, in the presentations I already have been doing in the past with MT, I will now have 1 more program to offer and tell about, and the word of mouth will no doubt spread.  Then, there are the day-cares, and early childhood programs out there for me to contact.   We have a head start at our nearby elementary school.  I’d love to present this program to them.

Katherine, I am in agreement—-I don’t feel I have near the marketing skills needed to develop a MT practice in an area not really served with MTs.

I will share some of this information with the daycare teachers I work with and continue to help them integrate developmentally appropriate music into their routines. I plan on sharing musical developmental information with the child life specialists at the hospital where I will be training.
