Hi. My name is Alison Barrington. I live in Chicago and I moved here from England just over a year ago. I have been a music therapist in the UK since 1992 and have worked with moms and pre-school groups for many years. I’ve done small, music therapy specialist groups with moms and children with special educational needs as well as a sing-along groups for children in church.
I have signed up for Sprouting Melodies for two main reasons. Firstly I would love to learn more songs and ways of leading groups. Secondly I have just got my green card and think that having a branded program will help me to find a way of working in the USA.
I look forward to hearing from everyone else and thank you to Meredith and Beth for the information so far!

      Hi,

I am the training Moderator. Welcome and thank you for introducing yourself. In the coming weeks please answer forum topic questions in the Topics created by Meredith. It is difficult for everyone and myself to keep track of everyone’s submissions if there are multiple topics. Thank you!

Welcome, Alison. It is very exciting to have you on the course. The UK has an amazing wealth of music therapy programs for families, and I recommend the books by Amelia Oldfield to everyone.

PS. As Erika mentioned, please use the created topics for discussions, it makes it easier to keep track as the weeks go by.

Thank you to everyone for their kind, encouraging words. I’d love to find out what everyone else does/is doing.
Yes, Amelia is great and has just been the guest editor for a special edition of British Journal for Music Therapy. It’s about music therapy and families (clients of all ages). It will come out soon so watch out for it!
I’ll think about topics and email again at some point (am sight seeing in D.C. with my family right now)

Hi Alison, It is wonderful to have you join us for this online course! It was a pleasure to meet you at the Great Lakes Region Conference MTBO Mastermind Institute and I’m thrilled you have decided to join us for this course! Enjoy your sightseeing if you are still in DC, and I look forward to hearing your insights throughout this course.
