I am looking forward to becoming an early childhood music specialist. This is very exciting step into my career. Thank you for this opportunity.

I am carefully considering to become the Sprouting Melodies Provider. I reviewed PDF and wanted clarify some questions regarding the cost. In order to become Sprouting Melodies provider, you have to pay $100 for membership annually (Individual SM Provider), $100 additionally if you do not make more than $100 for royalty, and professional liability insurance? How much is the liability insurance usually? and do I get to keep 100% of what I will be making from my business? Thank you in advance.

I am most looking forward to observing the children engaging in music and growing as they progress in Sprouting Melodies. I am also excited to seeing the bonding that will happened between parent and child through music. It’s really such an honor to be able to provide an environment and opportunities for parents to connect and bond with their children and have fun. I’m also excited to grow in my leadership and skills as a clinician. This course has really provided me with a lot of knowledge and tools and now it’s up to me to practice and put what I have learned into practice.

      Erika,

Is Julia allowed to ask these questions after tomorrow’s Call-in? I have the same ones as well.

Think the biggest thing I am excited about if I decide to become a provider is there support. Supervision is hard to come by when you are doing private practice on your own-not to mention, nowadays you have to pay per supervision. As a relatively young professional (I get to go through my first recertification cycle this month) I am just barely making ends meet and having a place to get support and resources from without breaking the bank is a huge deal!

Erika, Either Meredith or Elizabeth says in one of the videos for this week that we can post our questions on the forum. It would be good if questions are answered so everyone can benefit instead of setting up an individual email or phone call.

      Hi Julia and Nicole,
I’m happy to answer your questions. If you can be on the call in a little bit we can discuss it further. To answer here quickly, the $100 membership fee is due upon signing on to become a provider. Following that, the $100 is due annually. However, the annual membership fee is waived if you have paid in at least $100 in royalties over the course of the year. So for providers who want to stay connected to the community, but aren’t running programs, and therefore paying in quarterly royalty payments, they would need to continue to pay $100 annually.
Liability insurance is something that you absolutely should have in private practice and is recommended for all music therapists in practice. We just need proof of your insurance, it doesn’t cost you anything additional because you are a Sprouting Melodies Provider.
And yes, the royalty payments only apply to your Sprouting Melodies revenue, not the entire portion of your business revenue. Let’s set up a time to talk more about the details!

Although as others have said before me, I am excited and honored to be working with children. But what I really want out of this opportunity to be a provider is the help in establishing the groups, the national branding, and other cooperation and knowledge that I will need to succeed. In the past, before I found the clinic that I have just left, I tried working on my own. I would get an hour here and an hour there in nursing/rehab homes, preschools for at risk children, and some subbing for people on maternity leave. Michigan isn’t known for being a state which provides a lot of opportunities for music therapists. I want to help change that. So I am excited about the opportunity to use a program which I feel is very good and supportive to develop connections, networks, and get the word out about music therapy.

I’m excited to have an opportunity to work with this age group, and provide opportunities for parents & caregivers to bond with their children. I’m also excited to strengthen my group facilitation skills. Lastly, I’m excited to provide something that isn’t really happening where I live in Vermont. Music therapy has slowing been growing in our area, and I believe that this program will really help put our practice on the map here, as well as provide a service that is highly needed in our area.

I’m excited to work with children – while it can be exhausting at times it is a blast and very rewarding. I also look forward to helping give support for parents and give them tools to help with behaviors. Taking this course really helped me to improve my knowledge of early childhood development and appropriate music and music responses. This has increased my confidence in working with this population. I am excited to start a music development group and really begin to grow music therapy as a whole in my community.

I have been working with children as a MT for a short time. Before this, I did hospice for older adults. This course has been helpful beyond words and I am excited to learn and grow even more through practice not just conversation. Also, the community I serve can always use more early intervention for disabled and typically functioning children. I really love the idea of Family Sprouts especially for families who have children with and without disabilities.

I am excited to venture on a new path of growth as a music therapist. I have always worked with adults 18 and older (aside from my practicum placements). I remember being a music therapy student and being fully convinced that working with children was my path. I graduated and got a job working in a long term care facility and have been providing music therapy for adults ever since (10 years).
Something recently has been pulling in this direction, maybe seeing my young children and their friends enjoying music, and I have the feeling “it’s now or never”. I really want to expand my horizons as a music therapist and feel challenged. I believe that providing Music Therapy programs ,for children and their caregivers in the community, is the challenge I am ready to take on.

I am excited to have the opportunity to work with age groups I have yet to have much experience working with. I look forward to being challenged, to applying my new knowledge, and growing as a Sprouting Melodies Provider. I am also looking forward to having a support system behind me. As a new owner of a private practice, it will be so nice to have a program to offer my community that is supported by other therapists all over the country and that is offered by therapists all over the country. Knowing that I will have a group of other providers to reach out to if I ever have questions is comforting and exciting!

I am looking forward to looking at my students and families in an entirely different light. I am excited to observe more of their musical behavior and development and really see my students in each developmental level. I am also excited for this developmental knowledge to share with parents and teachers.

I am eagerly anticipating my next music group with young children, because I can’t wait to try out some of the songs, strategies, and “Sprouting Melodies Sayings” that I have learned throughout this course! I’ve already begun sprinkling the songs I’ve learned here, and they are wonderful. I am not certain whether I will take the full plunge and become an official Sprouting Melodies Provider, but I will definitely use what I’ve learned in this course to inform my practice.

I am excited to possibly have to opportunity to provide early childhood music services for the community and share the new knowledge I have about child development. Like many others have said, I love that there is a strong support system that will help me grow as a provider and therapist if I choose to become an official Sprouting Melodies Provider.
