in reply to: What value do music therapists bring to families of young children?
ParticipantI agree with with everyone’s statements. Music therapists truly are unique, in their abilities and skill set. We have the opportunity to not only engage parents and children in a fun and inviting way but we also are able to teach them about such a wide range of topics. We have an understanding of more then just music and we are easily share this with those we come into contact with.

in reply to: Sing and learn some of the songs presented in the video. Share with the board your experiences using these songs.
ParticipantI do not have any access to practice these songs with children currently but I hope to use some in upcoming practicums and internship. I really love having more songs at my disposal!

in reply to: Discuss with the board the traditional and cultural music in your home community.
ParticipantIn my area there is little diversity. There is the white german heritage culture and then the hispanic culture. So american folk songs are the norm with the addition of polka music.
July 28, 2016 at 1:57 pmParticipantEven though I am still a student I am looking forward to working with children. I have always loved children and I think I will bring through music a new avenue for them to express themselves and to grow and learn. In my area there is little in the form of music services for students besides lessons and school band and choir. I want to change this and have opportunities for young children to have more exposer to music. The material in this course will help me to hopefully accomplish this.

in reply to: What was your most valuable takeaway from this weeks’ content?
ParticipantFor me the most valuable takeaway was learning those different developmental levels and especially the warning signs. I still have much to learn but this is a great framework to help me build upon as I grown in experience and knowledge.
ParticipantHello Everyone,
My name is RaeAnna Zinniel and I am going to be a senior at Wartburg College in Waverly IA. I am from Sleepy Eye Minnesota. I always have had a love for children of all abilities, and through practicums I now know for certain that I want to focus my practice on children especially early childhood. I am currently starting my search for my internship and hope to find one where I can work with young children. After my internship I plan to move back to Sleepy Eye and start a private practice because in our area there are no therapists and there is a need in the community. I hope to use the things I learn from this training to bolster my knowledge and understanding of music and child development and to one day start my own Sprouting Melodies class.
