in reply to: What value do music therapists bring to families of young children?
ParticipantThank you all for the well wishes! We had a blast.
One phrase I often use when explaining the value of Sprouting Melodies is that we work by the child, not by the book as some other music programs do. That’s where our training as music therapists comes into play!
ParticipantHi everyone. It was so great catching up and reading all of your responses this week. Thank you for your detailed responses and for checking back to engage in the conversations that have started!

Be sure to save/print your answers so this work is done for you and you can review it if you decide to take on your own Sprouting Melodies groups. Now the hard part is done and this will feel more solid to you as you run groups and can look back at it!

in reply to: Discuss with the board the traditional and cultural music in your home community.
ParticipantThank you for sharing your very meaningful personal use of music in your home. How about out in the community where you work or live? Is it different than your personal use of music?
September 29, 2015 at 11:07 pmParticipantIt was so great reading your experiences with some of these developmental stages! It is so important to have examples of responses in each stage in your mind as you learn the music so you can then look for those responses throughout the different ages and developmental levels when/if you begin groups of your own.

in reply to: What was your most valuable takeaway from this weeks’ content?
ParticipantLauren, I’m glad you mentioned that you thought of some songs you have used in the past. We would all benefit from you sharing any ideas you have! Feel free to use this forum to express ideas and learn new ideas from other participants! Sprouting Melodies is all about taking the framework and making it your own, so any original ideas are welcome!
ParticipantHi Everyone! My name is Kristina Barbo and I am one of the online moderators for this course. I live in Reading MA. I graduated from Anna Maria College, and I currently work at Roman Music Therapy Services(RMTS) with Meredith Pizzi as a music therapist, Sprouting Melodies Coordinator, Sprouting Melodies Provider, and practicum student supervisor. I work with a diverse clientele from birth to end of life in various populations. I have been a Sprouting Melodies Provider for three years. I participated in the live training in NY with Beth and Meredith in June of 2012, and completed the online training in November of 2012 after I became a board certified music therapist. My online training experience was unique as I had already started to lead SM groups of my own, which was very helpful as a refresher, and gave me the opportunity to absorb the information in a more applicable way. I will be present during this entire online training course to be a resource for you throughout your experience. I am here to respond to any questions you may have and offer my support as best I can, so please feel free to contact me here on the forum! You can also contact me by email with any specific questions you may have at kristina@romanmusictherapy.com. I look forward to getting to know all of you over the next several weeks!
