ParticipantGreat session plans everyone! Your sentences are perfect! They are short enough to share in between cleaning up instruments or quickly during experiences so you are getting information out there but not talking so much that you lose the attention of the children!
ParticipantI enjoyed hearing about all of the instruments you are currently using! If you decide to become a Sprouting Melodies Provider, Meredith and Beth can assist you in the purchase of instruments that fit your budget to run your Sprouting Melodies classes!
ParticipantAnn Marie, at our center in Melrose where we offer Sprouting Melodies we cap the classes at 12 kids. We typically get one adult per child on top of that. It has been a comfortable group size that I find works well.
Wonderful reflections on this everyone! I enjoyed reading your responses. It definitely makes you realize how important our training is for working with young children and families.

ParticipantI enjoyed reading all of your contributions. It is definitely interesting thinking about all the ways in which we can bring music to our communities. Instead of trying to fit into a box, we can flexibly create opportunities for people to be music makers!

ParticipantWonderful job with this post everyone! It was so much fun to read all of your different plans for the sessions! It’s so nice to get some fresh musical ideas, so I always love reading about what others would use for music in their classes. Once you complete the training and if you decide to become a provider you will be given access to our online Sprouting Melodies Provider Forum where you can share ideas and songs and learn from others!

in reply to: Share some of your experiences with children of this age and level.
ParticipantThank you for sharing such amazing stories that are both personal and professional. I know when I first started my Sprouting Melodies groups, I felt like I may not be viewed as knowledgeable because I do not have kids of my own, but this training really does prepare you for answering questions and providing information that parents want to hear. I figured out quickly that parents do really value my knowledge of early childhood development and music!

ParticipantBe sure to also write 5 sentence you can use when speaking to parents about musical responses.
ParticipantI love how many of you talked about the importance of the different relationships that form in these community groups. Kristen, you talked about how parents are seeking peer relationships with other parents and I see that a lot in my Sprouting Melodies classes. I also have a lot of nannies that talk to each other about places to go to play and explore with the little ones in their care. For this reason, I always make name tags each week for the kids and for the adults. It creates a sense of community where everyone knows each other’s name instead of just the kids. It’s easier for a parent to approach another parent if they know their name first! It’s also great for early literacy skills and learning that letters form words and words have meaning such as your name!

ParticipantIt is so exciting to hear how all of you recognize your value as music therapists. It is so important to be able to understand this and communicate it to others. We really do have so much to offer!

ParticipantThank you so much for sharing. I enjoyed reading all of your responses. One of the great things about this forum is learning from each other. I got some great new ideas just from reading your submissions, so be sure to check back and read everyone’s responses.
February 11, 2016 at 10:33 pmParticipantGreat job everyone! These are all great responses and will be extremely helpful to you when talking with parents about what responses they can expect to see in each developmental level.

in reply to: Sing and learn some of the songs presented in the video. Share with the board your experiences using these songs.
ParticipantThank you all for sharing. Laetitia, I love how you talked about embedding the music with your son. It is great to have that experience when talking with families about how they can use the music outside of class when they are home!

ParticipantJust echoing Erika here…It was great to read all of your submissions! Knowing your community is so important when providing community music whether that be music therapy, or programs like Sprouting Melodies.
