I loved reading about what each of you will bring to early childhood music therapy based programs! There is so much we, as music therapists, have to offer young children and their families! Like Shelly said, sometimes it’s hard to make it through the day, but we have so many tips and tricks of functional ways to use music at home and throughout a family’s day that can make it so much more fun and manageable!

in reply to: What was your most valuable takeaway from this weeks’ content?
ParticipantYes, thank you Erika! I have been a provider for almost 4 years and at first I felt the same way! The more information I shared with families and the more I used the Sprouting Melodies sayings, the more I felt confident in being a strong resource for families. I noticed that parents and caregivers asked me more questions and really valued my expertise despite the fact that I am not a mom!
ParticipantHi Everyone! My name is Kristina Rio and I am one of the online moderators for this course. I live in Reading MA. I graduated from Anna Maria College, and I currently work at Roman Music Therapy Services(RMTS) with Meredith Pizzi as a music therapist, Sprouting Melodies Coordinator, Sprouting Melodies Provider, and practicum/internship supervisor. I work with a diverse clientele from birth to end of life in various populations. I have been a Sprouting Melodies Provider for three and a half years. I participated in the live training in NY with Beth and Meredith in June of 2012, and completed the online training in November of 2012 after I became a board certified music therapist. My online training experience was unique as I had already started to lead SM groups of my own, which was very helpful as a refresher, and gave me the opportunity to absorb the information in a more applicable way. I will be present during this entire online training course to be a resource for you throughout your experience. I am here to respond to any questions you may have and offer my support as best I can, so please feel free to contact me here on the forum! You can also contact me by email with any specific questions you may have at kristina@romanmusictherapy.com. I look forward to getting to know all of you over the next several weeks!
ParticipantBeth also posts a lot of great new songs on the Sprouting Melodies website blog with a video, lyrics, and description of why the song is functional for young children!
ParticipantOnce you become a Sprouting Melodies Provider you will be given access to the provider resources including marketing materials, the forum for SMP’s and all of the videos from this course to review at anytime.

in reply to: How are you planning on sharing this information with colleagues, administrators and families?
ParticipantI enjoyed reading how you are already sharing this information as well as your ideas of how to share. Not only will you be advocating and growing your professional identity, but you will also be making a positive impact in each of your respective communities!
ParticipantIt has been so great getting to know all of you! I echo Erika when I say that I am glad you all found value in this course and will incorporate your new knowledge into your current or future work! I am looking forward to having some new amazing music therapists sign on as Sprouting Melodies Providers!
ParticipantNoelle, congratulations! I love your updated photo.
Great responses everyone. I enjoyed reading everyone’s reflections on this topic.
ParticipantHi Michelle! I am also using Meredith’s “Hello Everybody” in my SM groups. It has become a staple in my groups and a much loved familiar song by our families. One way that I have spiced it up to keep everyone engaged is by singing, “who is next?” IV-V-I. I then hold up my pointer finger and tell the kids and adults to blow on it like it’s a birthday candle. Then with a siren sound “whoooooo” I moved my pointer finger around the circle from where I am seated until it stops on the next child. This is a great way to keep the familiar but to add a bit of surprise and excitement to the song!
I know one of our other providers, Laura Micheli sometimes uses “Today Is A Beautiful Day.” in D Major
“Hello, hello, today is a beautiful day.
Hello, hello, today is a beautiful day.
Hello, hello, today is a beautiful day.
And I’m so glad you’re here.”Verse: “Hello Kristina (musical pause wave and say hello)
Hello, Hello, Hello.”I hope this helps you out! I can’t wait to hear what other people are using as well!

in reply to: Use 5 words to describe the music experiences in Sprouting Melodies 3.
ParticipantGreat job on these! I love how you are already thinking about why you are using each song and how the children can participate at their own level!
