ParticipantI am so excited to hear about all of your ideas for where and how to share this information!
Corie, if you can observe the Sprouting Melodies Provider in your area that would be so helpful! It’s one thing to go through the training, but then to see it all in action with all the different children, it really solidifies what you have learned!
If anyone is ever in the Boston area, you are welcome to come and observe our Sprouting Melodies classes at our center in Melrose! Good luck everyone!
ParticipantI am looking forward to having such great additions to our Sprouting Melodies Provider community!

ParticipantThanks for sharing Brianna. It sounds like you have had some great experiences already!
ParticipantWonderful responses! Understanding the challenges and being sensitive to what parents may be feeling when comparing is so helpful when in the moment so you can articulate what you are doing and why, and how each caregiver can adjust to meet their child at the level they need. You can have caregivers modify how they and their child participate in an experience to make it more challenging and exciting for the older kids, but still have the structure and familiarity with the younger ones! But tell the caregivers what you are doing and why! They really want to know!

ParticipantBrianna, I think a lot of times those parents who are professionals are looking for that structure and outcome of classes, and want to know more. One thing that is great about Sprouting Melodies is that there is structure in repetition, and that’s why we repeat a song so many times before moving on to something different. It’s a different kind of structure than having a curriculum with specific themes or concepts, but there is still so much value in what we can offer parents. I send out weekly emails to my classes to continue the education outside of class for those looking for more! It has been very successful, and helps to engage those parents who want more, and to stress the value of their participation in just being in the moment!
ParticipantAlso remember that when you have two children with different needs of stimulation levels, let the parent or caregiver in on how they can engage with their child differently to support their child through something that may be too much or too little. That may be just facing them towards the caregiver, or giving an older child a separate task from the group to challenge them!

ParticipantGreat plans and sentences everyone! As Erika said last week, these will be helpful when you start your own classes, so be sure to print them and save them in a folder for reference later!

ParticipantWell said Mary K.!Great job with this reflection everyone. Mary C. I totally agree with you about having stake holders and advocates through our community based program. We have so many families that come to Sprouting Melodies that are now advocates for Music Therapy and for the unique qualities we bring to Sprouting Melodies.

ParticipantEmily, I completely agree with you about how valuable we are as a part of the communities we work with as far as providing music making experiences for all even those not seeking clinical therapy. I’ve enjoyed leading community concerts and drum circles to support our community through my work at Roman Music Therapy Services, and it is a very important part of what we do!

in reply to: What value do music therapists bring to families of young children?
ParticipantWhat wonderful reflections everybody! I agree with all of you that community and peer supervision is so important and valuable. I am lucky enough to work with a team of 6 music therapists, and we have a weekly group supervision meeting that is so helpful. Not only am I learning and growing by bringing my questions, but I am learning from my peers’ questions as well. This in turn is a value that is passed on to the families and individuals that I work with.
Once you complete this training, and if you decide to sign on to become a Sprouting Melodies Provider, then you will continue to get support through our online Sprouting Melodies Provider Site. Resources are readily available, and there is a forum to ask questions and learn from other providers!
