Great insights and points. I hear a lot of responses about finding the balance of meeting each child’s needs.
KeymasterThank you all for your insights. Your responses to this question are great to keep on hand when you may have to advocate or explain why the work you are doing (or classes you are offering) are unique and make you different from other early childhood music classes/experiences.
KeymasterHi Kayla,
Thank you for your insights and perspectives. I think your thoughts make sense and you bring up an important point about the music as therapy mindset. When we encourage people to move away from judging their music making based on performative perspectives, people can engage deeply and get so much more from being in the music.
KeymasterReminder: Please add the names of songs you would use for each experience of the plan you share.
Thank you 🙂
KeymasterFor anyone wanting to learn more about sensory processing this a link to the Star Institute in Colorado. It was founded by Dr. Lucy Jane Miller (OT). Although their institute focuses on sensory processing disorder, I find their resources to help with recognizing sensory processing in general and how to use music to moderate stimulation to meet all children’s needs in the here-and-now.

KeymasterFor those that do not have experience with this age range, yours skills and background from music therapy will be a great aide as you begin your work in this area.

KeymasterGreat insights! I offered a 0-3 months class which typically brought in first time parents. It really provided so many families a place to connect with others experiencing parenting for the first time and the challenges that come with that. Many came to me after going to a 0-12 month classes and sharing similar feelings you shared. I found my families with 2 or more children had infants were able to tolerate the stimulation levels in multi-age family classes. It seemed they were already use to lots of stimulation from having older siblings.
